WELCOME TO YOU, ME & COFFEE

Home: Welcome

We're in a new decade. A decade where people of all ages have vowed to put themselves first. In the second half of the 2010s decade, the term "self-care" became very prominent in our lives. Social media was booming with the idea that we need to put ourselves first, spew positive energy into the universe, and manifest our wildest dreams.

As we wrapped up the 2010s and prepared ourselves to turn the page into the "roaring twenties", we considered all that we learned about self-care, positivity, and manifestation and promised that we would begin this new decade with fresh mindsets. Am I right? If yes, please keep reading.

We all have different versions of "self-care". Some dedicate 30 minutes every morning to a glorious skincare routine. Others hit the gym 4 days a week. And others, well, they relax on the couch after a long day with a bowl of ice cream - that counts! And for me? Writing. I have been writing my feelings, thoughts, secrets, memories, bad moods, and happy moments for as long as I can remember.

As we enter 2020, I made a promise to myself to continue writing and to share it with all of you. I will write about me and I will write about you. And with each blog entry, I can assure you there will be a giant mug full of coffee in my hand.

Day Four & Day Five

January 4 & 5, 2020

Sunday Scaries.

First, I'd like to apologize for combining Days Four & Five into one post. But hey, life happens!

I have been off of work since December 20 and taking that many days off is not something very "me" of me. That being said, I made a promise to myself about 5 months ago that I would get better at giving myself some me time. This is something I struggle with and I know many of you do as well. We are thrown into a society that teaches us the following: we only get out what we put in, it takes hard work to get what you want, we'll sleep when we are dead, etc, etc. The truth is, we are better, stronger and brighter when we take care of ourselves, when we take the time off that we earned.

Being able to enjoy the holidays without the added stress of work is something I will forever be grateful for. The holidays are my favorite time of year. There's so much joy, laughter, and love, and I truly can't get enough of it. It's always a little sad when the holidays end and everyone starts to pack up their decorations and revert their homes back to their regularly scheduled programming. This year, however, I am trying extra hard to not dwell on negative emotions and instead find positivity with every negative thought or feeling. In this case, instead of drowning in the sorrows of another holiday season coming to an end, I am feeling happy and grateful to have had another beautiful holiday season with the people I love most.

As I meal prep my way into Monday, I have vowed to not let the Sunday Scaries get the best of me this time around. Will it be challenging to jump back into work after two weeks off? Absolutely. Will I let that challenge completely consume me right now or even tomorrow, causing me to toss and turn all night, eat my feelings, and walk into work surrounded by a cloud of negativity? Absolutely not. What good would that do me or anyone who enters into the space of my metaphorical dark cloud tomorrow? The answer is that it wouldn't do anyone any good and it would only hold me back from walking away from the cloud and into the sunshine.

We need to take better care of ourselves. We could spend a week researching and purchasing the latest and greatest skin care products, spending the next month religiously applying face masks, night cream, and all sorts of oils - and while your skin may be on fleek with a perfect glow, that very glow takes a back seat the second you allow yourself to feel and express a hefty load of negativity. In other words, self-care means nothing if you are letting things like "Sunday Scaries" get in your way.
