WELCOME TO YOU, ME & COFFEE

Home: Welcome

We're in a new decade. A decade where people of all ages have vowed to put themselves first. In the second half of the 2010s decade, the term "self-care" became very prominent in our lives. Social media was booming with the idea that we need to put ourselves first, spew positive energy into the universe, and manifest our wildest dreams.

As we wrapped up the 2010s and prepared ourselves to turn the page into the "roaring twenties", we considered all that we learned about self-care, positivity, and manifestation and promised that we would begin this new decade with fresh mindsets. Am I right? If yes, please keep reading.

We all have different versions of "self-care". Some dedicate 30 minutes every morning to a glorious skincare routine. Others hit the gym 4 days a week. And others, well, they relax on the couch after a long day with a bowl of ice cream - that counts! And for me? Writing. I have been writing my feelings, thoughts, secrets, memories, bad moods, and happy moments for as long as I can remember.

As we enter 2020, I made a promise to myself to continue writing and to share it with all of you. I will write about me and I will write about you. And with each blog entry, I can assure you there will be a giant mug full of coffee in my hand.

Sick.

It's been over one week since my last post mainly because I've been a bit under the weather. 'Tis the season, am I right? If I'm being honest, (and you know I'm all about honesty) I just haven't been motivated to write while I've been feeling so crappy. Throughout the first couple of nights that went by without a new post, I got pretty down on myself. I felt like I was letting myself and all of you down. But then I was quickly reminded by a nasty coughing fit just how sick I really was and how badly my body and mind needed to rest.

While we're being honest, let me point out how much none of you want to hear about how sick I've been or how many coughing fits have been keeping me up all night throughout the last week, so I'll get to my point...

We are all going to fall off every now and then, and if you are falling off at the expense of taking care of yourself in exactly the way you need to at that moment, good on you! We need to continuously remind ourselves that it's not only about the end goal, but also the climb to get there. Yes, it's a climb. A goal is defined as "the object of a person's ambition or effort; an aim or desired result." You have to put in a fair amount of effort to get the result you desire and sometimes you will put in more effort than other times. I am here to tell you that it's okay to fluctuate like this. Perhaps your high school sports coach wouldn't agree with me, but I'm not your high school sports coach :).

I truly believe that setting unrealistic goals and nearly killing ourselves to try to achieve them is just plain cruel to do to ourselves. Go ahead and set those goals - even if they're unrealistic - but also lay out a plan for how to get there. A reasonable plan. Writing every day on a brand new blog during the time of year when I typically get sick, maybe not so realistic. Writing however many days a week my heart and soul feels like it, way more realistic. What good would it do any of us if I forced a blog post every single day that had absolutely no purpose at all? I bet you wouldn't continue to read or follow my blog at all. You with me?

We have to be realistic and live in the moment rather than trying to live in the future that just doesn't exist yet. My goal with You, Me & Coffee is to bring a little bit of positivity and encouragement into your life, especially when you aren't feeling so chipper. I aim to write relatable, feel-good content. I'm doing this for you just as much as I am for myself. My plan to achieve this goal is to continue to write when the time is right for me - so that I always write with purpose and a true message that I feel in my heart on that particular day.

Whatever your goals may be, I promise you that you will achieve them and by the time you are achieving them, you will have already set bigger and better goals to reach for. Sometimes the climb is going to feel like a sprint and other times it will feel like you just learned how to crawl. But - you. will. get. there.
